PATIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Position Summary:
Responsible for maintaining front desk activities, including greeting, instructing patients/visitors and scheduling both in person and over the phone.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Greet patients upon arrival in a pleasant manner. Obtains updated information from patient upon arrival, such as address, phone numbers, insurance information, etc., to keep records current.

Assists with scheduling of tests and procedures after identifying the need for pre-authorization or physician referrals.

Generates appropriate documentation for the patient visit when required, including cases, referral information, referring physician, required signatures based on insurance type, etc

Uses multi-l! ine telephone system to answer and screen calls. Takes accurat! e telephone messages and promptly gives information to appropriate parties.

Schedules appointments, verifying information (spelling of name, phone number, etc.)

Maintains records of physician's time in and out of the office and communicates schedule changes appropriately. Updates, modifies, and maintains physician's patient schedule.

Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters relating to the Clinic, its patients and its employees.

Utilizes proper channels to voice suggestions, concerns and/or complaints.

Communicates patient arrival to physician and/or nurse.

May perform other duties as assigned or requested

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience

Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred.

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and! weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Must display good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to professionally receive and follow oral instructions.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills

Requires skill in operating a computer, fax machine, multi-line phone and photocopy machine. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have training in the IDX! Patient Management system. Ability to learn basic medical terminology.!

Requires knowledge of business office procedures and the use of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation to address patients and enter patient information on the patient information system.

Ability to speak effectively.

Able to hear average conversations and respond accordingly.

The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects or pinching fingers together.

Specific vision! abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
