Unified School District 204 Bonner Springs / Edwardsville is now accepting applications for a District Nurse Liaison for the 2018-2019 School Year.

The qualified applicant will hold a val id Kansas nursing license and registered nursing degree, and have at least three (3) years of school nursing experience. Skyward experience preferred.

Essential Functions and General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidential health files on students and staff
  • Notify the proper authorities when serious concerns are noted
  • Help students and staff maintain an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health
  • Ensure that building activities conform to district guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff, as well as district and community members
  • Operate health equipment appropriately as required
  • Maintain student immunization records
  • Communicate with parents regarding immunization records
  • Provide emergency care for accidents and sudden illness of students until parent assumes responsibility
  • Notify administrator and parent(s) of students who become severely ill or injured
  • Monitor and enforce medication guidelines
  • Dispense medication to those students who require medication at school
  • Encourage periodic health examinations for all children
  • Counsel with teachers, students, and parents concerning children’s individual health problems
  • Maintain a cumulative health folder for each student, recording all pertinent data
  • Submit accurate and timely reports as required by various health agencies
  • Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

Specific Responsibilities for Nurse Liaison:

  • Cover Health Office at BSHS in morning during CNA classes (approx. 2.5 hours/day)
  • Serve as Lead Nurse for Head Start and McDanield Early Learning Center
  • Conduct / assist with vision and hearing screenings for all schools (annually)
  • Conduct / assist with new st udent hearing and vision screenings at all schools (monthly)
  • Conduct hearing & vision screenings at McDanield and Head Start ( monthly)
  • Conduct required blood pressure checks at Head Start (as needed)
  • Facilitate, coordinate, schedule and assist with dental treatment clinics at all schools
  • Serve as Substitute Nurse for Nurses when half-day P.M. absence requests are made
  • Serve as “On-Call” Substitute Nurse for other Nurses who become ill or need to take unexpected short-notice leave from mid-morning through the end of the day
  • Primary facilitator for proper disposal of “sharps” and leftover medication as required by law for each school; work with City / County officials per jurisdiction regulations
  • Coordinate ordering of Nursing supplies for each building for all Nurse offices
  • Facilitate inspections, order replacements, maintain current units and supplies for all AED’s to ensure compliance with State and Federal statutes and guidelines; secure necessary doctor / physician orders for units
  • Conduct weekly/monthly medicine/narcotic counts at each school
  • Maintain supply of EPI-pens; renew & order each year; obtain physician orders
  • Liaison for district Nursing Policies - language development and updates, training and communicating with district nurses on health policies, ensuring adherence
  • Teach CPR classes for staff and all BSHS freshman and assist with CNA CPR classes
  • Health and Wellness promotions at each school; Educational Classes (hand washing teaching, puberty talks, nutrition and health education, etc.) mostly for elementary
  • Health Education for middle and high school (hygiene, reproductive, health issues)
  • Primary District Representative for Closed P.O.D. (Point of Distribution) for WYCO Emergency Preparedness in cooperation with the Health Department
  • Plan and Schedule CEU opportunities (Continuing Education) for Nursing Team
  • Facilitate periodic district-wide Nurse meetings
  • Coordinate P.D. days for nurse specific professional development opportunities
  • Serve as primary contact for all Nurses for Skyward; research, resource, update and deliver training on Skyward health charting and reports
  • Serve as District Wellness Committee Rep. (separate from building wellness champions)
  • Serve as District Nursing Rep. for IEP’s, 504’s, and individual student Healthcare plans; attend meetings, create health care plans and communicate care plan with buildings
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal statutes and KASB guidelines on school health in order to ensure that our district is following evidence based practice.
  • Represent Nursing Team at District level meetings regarding Enrollment, Skyward etc. and other meetings where Nursing input would be beneficial
  • Immunization reporting, compliance and Skyward documentation for MLC st udents
