We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.Position Summary: Provides professional nursing care to patients including a comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs, planning, coordination, teaching, documenting, counseling, and providing direct physical care. Evaluates patient response to care and progress towards outcomes.

Assists other personnel providing delegated aspects of care. Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State in which employed. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Demonstrates the ability to assess and evaluate age appropriate d! ata. Implements interventions based upon the physician's medic! al plan and standards of care including medication and treatments with knowledge of therapeutic intent.

Utilizes critical thinking to appropriately delegate tasks and evaluate the effectiveness of care. Provides professional nursing care based upon identified nursing problems. Assists patients and families to integrate the impact of illness and recovery into their lifestyles, including, but not limited to: care planning; patient/resident/family education; discharge planning; appropriate referrals. Promotes team work through collaboration, positive communication and role modeling, respecting the individuality of each patient, resident, family members and fellow staff.

Supports the management team in establishing and implementing goals of the unit, including quality improvement activities, staff meetings, performing tasks as requested, and by increased awareness of own responsibility to help contain costs. Contributes to continuity of care and effective comm! unication by documenting and reporting care provided. Reports changes in the patients/residents condition to the appropriate person in a timely manner. Responsible for patient/resident/family safety, identifying safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action as appropriate.

Assumes responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Supports a work environment that is highly supportive of a professional practice role, including accepting preceptor responsibilities for new staff members and affiliating students. May perform other duties as assigned or requested. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and/or Experience: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), or 3 year diploma in nursing, from an approved (Accredited by NLN or CCNE) college or university required or graduating from an approved nursing program within the next 6 months.

BSN from an approved (Accredited by NLN or CCNE) college or university desired. Two years or m! ore of acute care experience is required for level 2 positions. Displays compassion for patients, family members, and others; along with a nurturing spirit to provide care during emotionally stressful situations.

Possesses a willingness to learn and apply Catholic Healthcare principles and values in the discernment and decision making process for all clinical matters. Exhibits well developed verbal and written communication skills, and is able to professionally receive and follow oral instructions in English. Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress related to the position, function independently, having flexibility, consistency and professionalism. Must demonstrate on an ongoing basis the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and ministry leadership.
Exhibits safe, positive and productive work habits. Technical Skills: Working knowledge of basic computer systems in order to complete data entry required. Exposure to various computer systems and safety systems (ex. IV pumps) required.

Basic working email knowledge required. Ability to navigate the internet and Via Christi intranet required. Ability to use multiple forms of communication devices such as telephones, paging systems, portable data devices. Demonstrates procedural competencies for assigned tasks.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a current RN license or eligible to sit for NCLEX within the next 6 months at the time of employment application is required. Must have Kansas RN license by date of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of h! ire. Minimum unit specific certifications and competencies required wit! hin one year post date of hire: NIHSS certification.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to push and pull items, such as patient beds, requiring an initial force of up to 75 lbs with a sustained force of up to 40 lbs. Frequently required to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds at waist height for distances up to 100 feet.

Frequently required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing 100-400 pounds and occasionally required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing over 400 pounds. Tolerate standing and walking for up to 6 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces. Frequently perform activities that requi! re stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.

Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position for up to 30 minutes at one time. Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as patient calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls. Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and manipulating while pushing syringes, adjusting IVs, handling intricate medical equipment, taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.

Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens. Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental issues s! uch as smoke. Working Conditions: Occasionally exposure to fumes or air! borne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, communicable diseases, etc is routine.
