Job Title: DIRECTOR CLINICAL SERVICES Job Code: 24429 Shift: 8 Hour Day Shift Employment Status: Full-Time Average Hours per Week: Category! : Nursing JOB DESCRIPTION: Position Summary: The position manages, coordinates, directs, and maintains an efficient, productive, and organized clinical structure. The position has administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the nursing department and is a key member of the hospital administration team. The position actively participates with leaders from the governing body, administration, management, medical staff and all areas of the hospitals decision making structure and is responsible for maintaining compliance based upon regulations governing the hospital. The position is also responsible for developing and adhering to departmental budgets, including short-term strategic considerations, within the hospital guidelines and functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Works cooperatively and efficiently with all hospital staff in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating all! clinical services.

Works cooperatively with the Seni! or Nursing Director at Via Christi and the senior leadership at McPherson Hospital to implement, direct and evaluate all clinical services and programs. Provides direction for delivery of care, treatment, and services within defined scope. Models behaviors that create a culture of service excellence by investing in the development of employees by coaching, mentoring and teaching. Creates an environment that supports Employee Engagement initiatives to increase employee morale and job satisfaction.

Supports the interdisciplinary shared decision making model. Works cooperatively with Senior Nursing Director to forecast, plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate all clinical services and programs. Ensures the financial and budget performance meets or exceeds established targets. Proactively identifies and implements opportunities to improve the patient and family experience of care.

Assumes responsibility, administrative authority and accountabi! lity for quality, service and safety. Develops and maintains clinical policies and procedures within system guidelines. Leads team meetings for the operational and administrative functions. Provides direct patient care frequently.

Performs other duties as requested or required.Management Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: unit/program development; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaint and resolving problems. Able to successfully drive the strategic and operational plan within areas managed. Oversees supervision of clinical staff compliance with infection control, hand hygiene, personal protection equipment, and blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety.

Be available 24/7 as needed. JOB! REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Masters ! degree required from an approved Accredited by NLN or CCNE college or university. Demonstrated progressive leadership experience in management of at least three years. Two years or more of acute care experience is required.

Demonstrates appropriate consult behavior. Technical Skills Working knowledge of basic computer systems in order to complete date entry required. Exposure to various hospital computer systems and safety systems (ex. IV pumps) required.

Basic working email knowledge required. Ability to navigate the internet and Via Christi intranet required. Ability to use multiple forms of communication devices such as telephones, paging systems, and portable date devices. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must meet eligibility requirements for nursing license through the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) at the time of employment application.

State licensure must be obtained prior to the date of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Profess! ional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire! . ACLS required within 30 days in community hospital setting. Conscious sedation competency may be required within 30 days in the community hospital setting.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to push and pull items, such as patient beds, requiring an initial force of up to 75 lbs with a sustained force of up to 40 lbs. Occasionally required to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds at waist height for distances up to 100 feet.

Occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds to shoulder height. Occasionally required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing 100-400 pounds and infrequently required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing over 400 pounds. Tolerate sta! nding and walking for up to 6 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces. Occasionally perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.

Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Frequently required to sit in a stationary position for up to 2 hours at a time. Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as phone calls, pagers, voices of employees/customers, and monitors/alarms. Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and manipulating while handling intricate medical equipment, writing, typing, and using a keyboard.

Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens. Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could! indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental ! issues such as smoke. Working Conditions: Combination of office/business and clinical environment. Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, communicable diseases, etc.

May have exposure to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and risk of radiation. Understand differences and adjusts care as related to age and developmental level. Requires ability to work where activities are characterized by frequent change.
