Position Summary:
Promotes, monitors and maintains safe, effective, and efficient nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care that are conducive to the health and safety of every patient.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Assumes individual responsibility and accountability for patient care delivered personally and care delegated to non-professional staff.

Serves as a resource for others and participates in the preceptorship of students as well as staff on orientation.

Provides intra-operative care to the patient undergoing invasive procedures, incorporating behavioral and technical components of professional nursing during the intra-operative phase. The scope of practice for the intra-operative nurse may include various roles such as circulating responsibilities, scrub responsibilities and education.

Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient.

Reviews preference sheet for assigned cases and prepares room for the scheduled procedure.

Supervises all counts and assures compliance with the count policy.

Demonstrates proper handling of specimen to include accurate labeling.

May perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience:
Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), or 3 year diploma in nursing, from an approved college or university required or graduating from an approved nursing program within the next 6 months.

BSN from an approved college or university desired.

Previous OR nurse experience, experience as an OR scrub tech, OR nurse tech, or Capstone Project in the OR preferred.

A minimum of two years nursing experience required for level 2 positions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a current RN license or eligible to sit for NCLEX within the next 6 months at the time of employment application is required. Must have Kansas RN license by date of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within one year of hire.

Specialty certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Frequently required to push and pull items, such as patient beds, requiring a force of up to 75 pounds.

Frequently required to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds at waist height for distances up to 100 feet.

Frequently required to lift up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.

Frequently required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing 100-400 pounds and occasionally required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing over 400 pounds.

Tolerate standing and walking for up to 6 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.

Frequently perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.

Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.

Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position for up to 30 minutes at one time.

Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as patient calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls.

Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and manipulating while pushing syringes, adjusting IVs, handling intricate medical equipment, taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.

Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.

Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental issues such as smoke.
