Location: Fort Riley Kansas

Description: U.S. Army Medicine Civilian Corps is at present recruited Neurologist right now, this position will be placed in Kansas. Irwin Army Community Hospital (IACH) is searching for a full-time Neurologist to independently manage and provide a full range of services to patients of all ages. 

IACH is cur! rently a 44-bed inpatient hospital with over 25 outpatient clinics. We service a patient population of about 63,000 Active Duty Soldiers, Family Members and Retirees in the area. In 2009 the Department of Defense approved IACH for the funding for a new $404 million, 550,000 square foot facility. It will be completed in 2013. This new hospital will be increased to a 52-bed facility, which will include an 8-bed, inpatient psychiatric unit. IACH is located at Fort Riley, which is nestled in the rolling, Flint Hills of Kansas, between the communities of Junction City and Manhattan. Manhattan is home to a major, Division One college, Kansas State University. Within a short, two hour drive are the major cities of Wichita and Kansas City, located to the south and east, respectively.

Responsibilities:
In an outpatient clinic the applicant performs a wide range of medical duties covering all aspects of the adult neurology specialty. Many patients have multiple in! teracting acute and chronic medical problems such as asthma, c! ancer, sequelae of premature birth and central nervous system injury, genetic/chromosomal anomalies, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Duties will include but are not limited too:
Examines patients, orders and evaluates the full range of electrophysiology, radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, plasmapharesis, nursing and dietary care, ancillary therapies (physical, occupational, and speech), and directs/reviews school IEPs (individualized education profile).
Makes referrals to neurosurgery for urgent issues, decompensation of chronic neurologic conditions, or implantation of neural stimulators for seizure control, then subsequently programs these stimulators.
Communicates with patients and refers patients back to the primary care manager for management of diseases outside the specialty of neurology.
Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems who were scr! eened and referred by the Emergency Room for urgent or emergent neurologic issues.

Qualifications:
MD or DO
Board Certified
Current, unrestricted license (any state)
ACLS and BLS Certified
US Citizen
