OR Circulating Nurse - Full Time

Location: Overland Park, Kansas

Description: ASCs/PT is in need of OR Circulating Nurse - Full Time right now, this vacancy will be delegated in Kansas. Detailed specification about this vacancy opportunity please read the description below. To act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of the facility. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of individual patients including but not limited to adult, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
Reports To: Perioperative Nurse Manager
Supervises: None
Classification: Non-Exempt
Qualifications

Degree from accredited nursing program
Licensure as registered nurse in Kansas
Minimum of one year work experience as an OR nurse - 2 years preferred
Multi-specialty experience preferred
BLS required
ACLS and/or PALS a plus
Occupational Exposure
Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.
Responsibilities

Prepares room, equipment and supplies needed for procedure. Assists anesthesia in obtaining supplies.
Opens sterile packs and supplies, using Surgeon's preference card for specific requests.

A preoperative assessment is performed that includes:
Assess level of consciousness, pain and color and integrity of skin.
Identify patient and introduce self to patient.
Determine a plan of care based on individual needs which include pain and safety measures.
Confirm operative site and allergies.
Necessary patient teaching will be done at this time.

In addition: checks chart, confirm consent, history and physical, laboratory results, allergies and confirms operative site.
Brings patient to Operating Room suite and assists patient to the operating bed after braking of gurney.
Positions patient for safe functional alignment, exposure of surgical site and to provide physical support.
Informs front desk of progress and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Notifies other facility units and/or front desk prior to transfer from the operating room.
Assists Anesthesiologist with monitor leads, blood pressure cuff and oximeter placement and remain at patient's side during induction and positioning.
Prepares patient's operative site, again confirming procedure and site with Surgeon's history and physical and the operating room team.
Directs overhead spot lights and connects equipment such as electrocautery, suction and power equipment.
Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts, if required. Obtains and opens any sterile supplies needed throughout procedure.
Responsible for obtaining specimen from the sterile field, labeling and documenting the specimen, placing it in the proper media and signing it in the Specimen Log Book.
Assists in applying the dressing and transporting the patient to the cart from the operating room table following policy and procedures regarding safety issues not only for the patient but for oneself.
Assists in the breakdown of the room and preparing the room for the next procedure.
Maintains an aseptic controlled environment.
Follows proper procedures regarding exposure to Category 1 tasks.
Follows proper procedures for handling hazardous waste materials.
Documents information required on operating room record.
Follows appropriate nursing care policies and procedures at all times.
