We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.Position Summary: A member of the professional staff who possesses the advanced knowledge, clinical skills, and is dedicated to the ongoing care of the patient. The Nurse Practitioner will provide routine care and management of the patient in collaboration with the supervising physician.

The Nurse Practitioner functions within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and the Via Christi Medical Staff Criteria for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Makes independent decisions about patient and family nur! sing needs and interdependent decisions with physicians in car! rying out healthcare regime. Obtains history and completes physical assessment to determine the level of care following established protocols. Regular patient rounding, to establish and help carry out the medical plan of care leading to the best clinical outcome.

Completes risk assessment prior to patient surgery. Promotes teamwork through collaboration, role modeling and positive communication Has prescriptive authority following written protocol. Provides consultation and education for patients. Contributes to the quality improvement plan and meeting the core measure performance goals of the medical center.

Serves as a consultant and clinical resource to nursing staff in effort to facilitate the plan of care for the patient from admission to discharge. Assures the utilization of evidence-based practice. Leads and assists with identified opportunities for process improvement. May perform other duties as assigned or requested eCare Only: Prescribes medicat! ions through the eCare Manager Documentation tool.

eCare Only: Provides patient care for community hospital patients in accordance to the attending physician classification. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and/or Experience Master's of Science in Nursing or a Doctorate in Nursing Practice with a clinical specialty required. Departments may require additional experience. If in a position responsible for billing, must meet eligibility requirements for a provider number and DEA license.

eCare Only: Proficient in the use of eCare Manager, working knowledge of the eICU. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kansas or to be obtained by date of hire required. Current certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Kansas or to be obtained by date of hire required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support affirmation desired.

National Certification in clinical specialty preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire. Additional certifications may be required by specific areas. Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to success! fully perform the essential functions of this job.

Frequently required to push and pull items, such as patient beds, requiring a force of up to 75 pounds. Frequently required to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds at waist height for distances up to 100 feet. Frequently required to lift up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.

Frequently required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing 100-400 pounds and occasionally required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing over 400 pounds. Tolerate standing and walking for up to 6 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces. Frequently perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day. Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.

Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position fo! r up to 30 minutes at one time. Frequently able to detect and discern b! oth loud and soft sounds such as patient calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls. Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and manipulating while pushing syringes, adjusting IVs, handling intricate medical equipment, taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard. Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.
